HBO’s CEO avoided commenting on J.K. Rowling’s controversial views on transgenderism during the announcement of a new Harry Potter series on Wednesday.

When asked whether Rowling’s views on the issue of transgenderism would spell trouble for the show finding cast members, the chairman and CEO of HBO and Max content, Casey Bloys, said, “No, I don’t think this is the forum.”

Bloys explained that “our priority is what’s on the screen.”

“Obviously, the Harry Potter story is incredibly affirmative and positive and about love and self-acceptance. That’s our priority — what’s on screen,” he reiterated.

He further revealed that the author of the popular book series, Rowling, will be involved in the show as an executive producer.

“The TV show is new and we’re excited about that, but, remember, we’ve been in the Potter business for 20 years. This is not a new decision for us; we’re very comfortable being in the Potter business,” Bloys said.

Rowling has been an outspoken critic of the transgender movement, calling for the protection of biological women.

When the news of the Harry Potter show was leaked in early April, social media users were quick to slam HBO for working with Rowling.

“Can we please stop giving JK Rowling more attention and give this idea to a book series/author that ISN’T openly transphobic,” wrote one user.
