The Golden State WarriorsDraymond Green sounded off on Black History Month during a post-game press conference Tuesday.

According to the NBA player, “you’ve got governors wanting to take our history out of schools.”

“We’re making all these changes in the world. Can’t talk about these people, can’t talk about those people, can’t say this, can’t say that,” he told reporters.

Green claimed that he wanted to get rid of Black History Month entirely, saying instead, “Teach my history from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 and then do it again.”

He made a point of specifying that he did not want to “get rid of black history like they’re trying to do.”

Green was likely referring to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), whose administration recently blocked an Advanced Placement African American Studies course that it deemed “inexplicably contrary to Florida law and significantly [lacking in] educational value.”

“If the course comes into compliance and incorporates historically accurate content, the Department will reopen the discussion,” Florida Education Department press secretary Cassie Palelis told the Washington Examiner.

One reason the governor cited for the move was the course’s inclusion of “queer theory,” which he said indicates “somebody pushing an agenda.”

After DeSantis’s move, media, Democratic politicians, and the White House criticized the governor. MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell went so far as to claim that DeSantis doesn’t want Florida schools to teach about the history of slavery. She ultimately issued a postscript the following week, admitting that the governor does not oppose the teaching of slavery.

Afterward, DeSantis slammed MSNBC for perpetuating the “hoax.”
