Well-known journalist Bill O'Reilly joined other conservative commentators such as Mike Huckabee and Sean Hannity in calling on the 20 Republicans voting against Kevin McCarthy to give him a chance for Speaker of the House.

"I think McCarthy should be given a chance because there's a mechanism to boot him if he does become somebody who's not representing what the Republican Party wants," O'Reilly said on Wednesday's edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.

The House rejected Rep. Kevin McCarthy for speaker over six consecutive votes, prompting Republicans to break into negotiating teams Wednesday night to find a potential resolution.

O'Reilly said he believes that the Republicans who didn't vote for McCarthy just see him as another Mitch McConnell.

"The 20 dissenters to McCarthy's nomination to be the House speaker see him as Mitch McConnell lite," O'Reilly explained. "There was outrage in the conservative community about the omnibus bill passing which has so much waste in it."

President Joe Biden signed the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending package last year which contained $850 billion for defense spending, more than $770 billion in domestic discretionary spending, and roughly $45 billion in aid to Ukraine and NATO.

"The Republicans aren't getting reassured by Mr. McCarthy that he'll be a fiscal warrior," O'Reilly stated. "Now, can he reassure them in a private meeting? I think that's what will happen tonight. They're gonna have a private meeting to figure this out. I think tomorrow or the next day McCarthy will win."
