TSA expands facial recognition program at major airports ahead of nationwide rollout

As more people are booking flights, the Transportation Security Administration is expanding its facial recognition program.

The program started at the peak of the pandemic.

Now, the agency is expanding the program to more than a dozen different airports.

The latest additions are Denver, Las Vegas, Dallas Fort-Worth, and Atlanta.

They are some of the nation’s busiest airports.

The TSA said this is the next step before a nationwide rollout.

“We’re assessing how the technology works and we’re assessing its accuracy, we’re assessing its impact on passengers,” said TSA Administrator David Pekoske.

The program would be the largest federal use of facial data ever.

Not everyone is happy about it.

TSA officials say the agency destroys most images immediately and secures the data from cyberattacks.

Passengers can opt out of the program and have an agent confirm their ID manually.
