California school board president - who rubbed shoulders with Kamala Harris - resigns after inviting students to his gay adult party... where they were plied with drinks by half-naked men in elf hats and ogled by 'Dirty Santa'

  • Steven Llanusa, president of Claremont Unified School District, on December 3 held a Christmas fundraising party, and paid members of the school choir to sing
  • The party, at his home, featured a 'Dirty Santa' and scantily-clad men dressed as elves, with the students allowed to access a free bar
  • Parents reacted with outrage to their children being invited, and Llanusa resigned at the weekend after an angry school board meeting

The president of a California school district has resigned after it emerged he invited students to perform at his home for a Christmas party, where they were plied with drinks served by semi-clad 'elves' - and subjected to suggestive commentary from a 'Dirty Santa'.

Steven Llanusa, 62, a high-profile Democrat who rubbed shoulders with Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren, held the party on December 3.

The president of Claremont Unified School District and a board member for the past 17 years, Llanusa organized the party as a fundraiser for schools and paid members of the school choir to attend and sing.

But parents were left fuming when they heard the details of the party, and over the weekend Llanusa resigned.

His invitation to the students was condemned at a school board meeting last week.

'They were offered an open bar and to socialize with half-naked men, the Dirty Santa who made disgusting comments to our children,' said Gabriel Lozano, one parent, after Friday's meeting.

Another parent, Sabrina Ho, parent to one of the students, demanded at the board meeting that Llanusa resign.

'Upon the student's arrival, Mr Llanusa invited the high school choir group into his private adult party in his home,' Ho said.

'They were encouraged to take part in food and festivities. The students didn't begin their scheduled performance until over an hour later and were offered alcohol by party guests among inappropriately dressed entertainers.'

Llanusa did not attend Friday's board meeting, but the vice president, Kathy Archer, said: 'I would like to be perfectly clear there were no other current or past board members present at that party.'

Llanusa's Facebook page is packed with him meeting high profile Democrats and stars such as Katy Perry and Steve Martin.

Deborah Kekone, mother of Chaparral Elementary School sixth grader and a 2019 CHS graduate, told Claremont Courier that Llanusa has hosted annual holiday parties at his home for the past several years.

'He always has … adult performers there dressed like that as eye candy at the party,' Kekone said.

'They post pictures every single year of the party.

'The party wasn't any different than any other party he's ever had, it's just that he decided this time to bring kids and expose them to all kinds of things that their parents were not aware of.'

The school district issued a statement after the meeting, condemning his actions.

'We are appalled by the allegations, which are understandably causing distraction, disruption and pain, as expressed in community members' messages to the Board and Superintendent,' their statement said.

'Please know that we receive and read your messages, and we take your concerns very seriously.

'Though the board cannot require Mr Llanusa's resignation, we encourage him to do so in order to begin the process of healing and returning our focus to students and their well-being.'

Llanusa has not commented on the party, but resigned at the weekend, CBS reported.

Claremont Unified Supt. Jim Elsasser confirmed to The Los Angeles Times that Llanusa had resigned from his post, effective immediately.

'The board will be discussing next steps to fill this vacancy during this Thursday's regularly scheduled board meeting,' he said.
