Arizona county certifies midterm election results after court order

Officials in Cochise County, Arizona, certified the election results of last month’s midterm elections Thursday after a court order compelled them to do so.

The three-person board of supervisors for the county voted 2-0, with one member not showing up for the vote.

The Grand Canyon State is set to certify the state’s full results Monday, making Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs’s (D-AZ) victory over Kari Lake, Hobbs’s Republican opponent in the gubernatorial race, official.

Hobbs sued Cochise County for not certifying the election results. Earlier Thursday, a Pima County superior court judge ordered the board of supervisors to meet and certify the results by 5 p.m. MST.

Of the major Arizona statewide races, Republicans lost every race except for state treasurer and superintendent of public instruction. In the gubernatorial race, Lake, thought to be a future star in the GOP, lost to Hobbs and has refused to concede the race, alleging widespread incompetence and fraud.
