Al Roker taken back to hospital one day after release: ‘His condition was worrying’

NBC weatherman Al Roker was taken via ambulance back to the hospital just one day after having been discharged.

Roker, 68, had been off the air for two weeks while in the hospital treating blood clots that went from his leg to his lungs. On Thursday, the Today weather anchor shared a video of himself heading home in time for Thanksgiving dinner.

As Roker was being rushed back to the hospital on Friday, his wife Deborah Roberts reportedly tried to break into their Tesla that would not unlock to get her cellphone and then follow her husband in the ambulance.

“His wife, Deborah, was understandably very upset. She had left her phone and other possessions inside their Tesla, which had malfunctioned and wouldn’t unlock, so she was trying to smash in a window,” an onlooker told Page Six, saying she was unsuccessful in the attempt. “Deborah then went to the hospital by taxi with her daughter, where Al has since been surrounded by his family.”

“His condition was worrying, but once back in the hospital, he improved,” the witness added.

As a result of being back in the hospital, Roker missed this year’s annual Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting Wednesday.

Access Hollywood’s Mario Lopez filled in for Roker and joined NBC News co-anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Craig Melvin for the event.

Roker also missed this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He is also battling prostate cancer, a diagnosis revealed in November 2020.

While it is not clear what caused Roberts to be locked out of the Tesla, lockouts reportedly take place when the electric vehicle’s battery dies.
