Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings called new Twitter CEO Elon Musk “the bravest, most creative person on the planet,” defending Musk’s recent takeover of the social media platform.

While saying that the two CEOs managing styles are different, Hastings called for others to “give the guy a break” and acknowledged that Musk is “trying to help the world in all of his endeavors.”

Hastings, one of Netflix’s co-founders, made the comments during Wednesday’s DealBook Summit.

“He just spent all this money for democracy and society to have a more open platform — and I am sympathetic to that,” Hastings said.

Musk responded to Hastings’s comments, tweeting: “Wow, thank you for the kind words.”

Hastings added that he supports Musk, recognizing that the Twitter CEO “believes in free speech and its power for democracy.”

“Now, how he goes about it,” Hastings continued, “is not how I would do it, but I’m deeply respectful and I’m amazed that people are so nit-picky on him.”

Musk has faced criticism over his changes to the social media platform, including implementing a subscription fee for verification checkmarks.

Earlier this year, Musk was critical of Netflix, suggesting its subscriber losses were due to the streaming platform’s “woke mind virus.” He later praised the company, though, for cracking down on woke employees who tried to censor content they did not like.
