Don Lemon’s CNN This Morning falls flat against Fox News and MSNBC programming

.

CNN’s new morning program, CNN This Morning, drew dismal viewership for its premiere episode on Tuesday.

The program, hosted by Poppy Harlow, Don Lemon, and Kaitlan Collins, brought in 387,000 total viewers, only 71,000 of which were of the coveted 25-54 demographic.

The show aired from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., competing with Fox News’s Fox and Friends and MSNBC’s Morning Joe. Fox and Friends blew CNN out of the water with a whopping 1.452 million viewers, and Morning Joe came in second with 793,000 total viewers, according to Nielsen data.

In the key 25-54 demographic that advertisers look for, Fox and Friends secured 236,000 viewers, followed by Morning Joe with 114,000.

Wednesday night, it was revealed that Jake Tapper’s CNN Tonight with Jake Tapper is being canceled by the network, and the host will be returning to his 4:00 p.m. time slot after the election.

“As part of a special lineup, Jake agreed to anchor the 9p hour through the midterm elections. At the completion of that schedule, he’ll be returning to his award-winning program The Lead. We will announce post-election plans for that time slot in the coming days,” a spokesperson for CNN told Semafor.

Last month, Lemon was announced as a host for the new morning show, alongside Harlow and Collins.

“There is no stronger combination of talent than Don, Poppy and Kaitlan to deliver on our promise of a game-changing morning news program,” said CNN Worldwide Chairman and CEO Chris Licht at the time, calling the group a recipe for a “smart, bold and refreshing” show.
