Crist, 66, made the comment while speaking at a town hall and said he continues to take precautions to protect himself and others from COVID-19.

“So, I’m going to the airport right after this,” Crist said.

“I’m going to Orlando, and I’m going to wear a mask on the plane. You don’t have to anymore, but I’m going to because Florida is experiencing an uptick. … It’s not even the Omicron B.2. It’s a new variant.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has been outspoken against COVID-19 mandates and made waves last month when he promised that no child would be forced to get the vaccine in Florida.

“As long as I’m kicking and screaming, there will be no COVID shot mandates for your kids,” DeSantis told parents, according to a report.
