Bill Maher says Paul Pelosi attack is part of ‘cold civil war’ in America

.

Bill Maher condemned the recent attack on Paul Pelosi as an example of the “cold civil war” in the United States.

The violent attack against Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) husband in their San Francisco residence was allegedly intended for the speaker, as the suspect asked her husband where she was while assaulting him. This 42-year-old suspect, David Depape, has been charged with attempted homicide, elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, and several other felony charges, according to police.

“You know, this is this cold civil war that we’re in, that we’ve been hearing about,” Maher said of the attack on Paul Pelosi and a similar attack during a drag queen story hour event. “Civil wars, it’s not going to be like the last civil war. It’s going to be this kind of stuff. And I think when you shut off that valve of letting people talk, I think that stuff only gets worse.”

Bill Maher, winner of the First Amendment Award, speaks to the crowd at the 26th Annual Literary Awards Festival at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, in Beverly Hills, California.

The television host has previously railed against President Joe Biden for his divisive statements against those in his opposing party. In a September speech, Biden referred to MAGA Republicans as being party to a “semi-fascism.”

“They didn’t watch this speech,” Maher said of the MAGA Republicans in question. “All they heard was he attacked us. He attacked our side. That’s where his big mistake was. People are not good enough to appreciate nuance in this country.”
